Play-Based Strategies to Support Black Youth
Through Racial Trauma

October 8th, 2021  9:00am-1:00pm CST
Phase III: 4 CEs – SPECIAL Topic - Webinar

* This training counts as 4 hours of APT Approved Training (2 hour of Skills/Methods & 2 hours of Special Topics)
Trainer: Dr. April Duncan, DSW, LCSW, RPT-S

Race-based stress develops when Black youth have frequent interactions with discrimination, racism and prejudice. Left  untreated, this can lead to racial trauma in Black youth. This webinar will explore the cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and verbal signs distress Black youth may exhibit in the playroom as a sign of racial trauma. Adlerian play therapy interventions are applied to individual, family and group play therapy to help Black youth increase their coping skills and  connections with caring adults. Time will be spent exploring play themes that may reflect signs of trauma, anxiety, and depression. Participants will leave with fun and engaging play therapy techniques to help Black youth learn healthy coping skills to manage racial stress in the playroom and beyond.
