* This training counts as 6 hours of APT Approved Training (2 hours of Seminal Theories, 2 hours of Skills/Methods, & 2 hours of Special Topics)
Trainer: Dr. April Duncan, DSW, LCSW, RPT-S

The recent racial justice movement has further highlighted the need for play therapists’ to recognize the unique needs of marginalized clients. A core ethical component is for clinicians to be mindful of their implicit biases. But what exactly does that mean? This training will challenge the play therapist to evaluate the way they treat and view the behaviors of minorities in the playroom and beyond. Additionally, attendees will learn how to apply the important characteristics of minority populations and gain strategies to engage them in culturally-competent play therapy. Interventions include play therapy games and activities for youth from marginalized communities including children of color and LGBTQ youth.
