Play Therapy with African American Children

September 19th, 2020: 9:00am-4:00pm
Phase II: 6 CEs

* This training counts as 6 hours of APT Approved Training (3 hours of Seminal Theories, 2 hours of Skills/Methods, & 1 hour of Skills/Methods)

Research shows that African American children are more like to suffer from adverse childhood events which can lead to untreated trauma and stressor-related disorders. This one-day workshop explores trends in the African American community that contribute to high rates of untreated mental health in children, adolescents and adults. Clinicians will gain an understanding of how to identify signs and behaviors of distress and trauma in African American children that may occur in the playroom. Additionally, participants will participate in a variety of creative play-based interventions to help address intergenerational trauma in children and their families in this population.
