Sand Tray 3.0: Enhanced Play Therapy Techniques

​* This training counts as 6 hours of APT Approved Training (1 hour of Seminal Theories, 3 hours of Skills/Methods, & 2 hours of Special Topics)

Have you attended a sand tray training before and now are looking to expand your knowledge and skills? Then join use for a two-day advanced sand tray training where we explore more ways to implement sand tray into  your practice. This workshop is for intermediate sand tray users who are looking to advance their skills. We’ll explore ways to use sand tray to supplement theories such as Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, the Therapeutic SandStory Method and more. With a combination of lecture and experiential learning, participants will leave this training feeling like the expert of sand tray!

*IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The cost of this training is $250. In order to register for this training, please email STLPlayTherapy@gmail.com with proof of having taken at least 18 CEs (from two separate APT Approved Provider trainings).  Once proof is received, a link to register will be emailed to you.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Assess ways to implement Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) into sand tray sessions in the playroom.
  2. Explore how to implement the “Pain Getting Better” technique into sand tray with children and adolescents in play therapy sessions.
  3. List five different ways to adapt solution-focused techniques in sand tray within a structured play therapy session.
  4. Discuss the benefits of using sandtray worldplay in play therapy sessions with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  5. Explore the benefits of sensory play in the sand tray with children and adolescents.
  6. Identify ways to involve caregivers in the play therapy session to review sand tray creations.
  7. Review ways the play therapist can observe the sand tray with cultural competence.
  8. Explore the use of narrative therapy in the sand tray within the play therapy sessions.
  9. Discuss ways to increase social and emotional development in children through the use of sand tray therapy.
  10. Explore how to address limitations of sand tray in the playroom and other settings.
  11. Discuss how the play therapist can determine if a traumatized or bereaved client is appropriate for sandplay.
  12. Explore the components of the Therapeutic SandStory Method and its use in sand tray in the playroom.
Please note: *Attendees are reminded that registration for a training must be cancelled within 48 hours of payment in order to receive a FULL refund* To request a change to a training, please email us at stlplaytherapy@gmail.com. Cancellations that are made seven days before the training date will given the option for either a refund less a $25 administration fee or a credit towards a future training. The refund amount will be for the amount paid for the training less a $25 administration fee.  All refunds will be mailed 60 days after request.  For persons requesting a credit, they will receive an individualized code for the amount to be used for a future training.

Trainings will be held at: 1123 Locust St, St. Louis, MO 63101. All full day trainings run from 9 AM to 4:00 PM, with a lunch break between 12-1pm.  Please note that while many trainings are on Thursdays and Fridays, in an effort to accommodate requests, some trainings fall on different days of the week.
