An Introduction to Sand Tray in Play Therapy

​Phase I: 12 CEs
* This training counts as 12 hours of APT Approved Training (3 hours of History, 4 hours of Seminal Theories, & 5 hours of Skills/Methods)
Trainer: April Duncan, MSW, LCSW, Registered Play Therapist

This two-day training is for participants who have never received any training in sand tray therapy and are looking to implement this fun strategy with clients of all ages. Participants will leave this workshop with a solid foundation of how to implement sand tray in individual, family, and group play therapy sessions. Extensive time will be spent on experiential learning, through the use of constructing and processing sand trays.

*All participants will receive a portable sand tray with sand and a small sand tray miniature collection.*
Learning Objectives:
  1. Compare the difference between sand tray vs sand play therapy.
  2. Analyze how to properly set up sand tray in the play therapy room.
  3. Explore the historical context of sand tray in the play therapy room.
  4. Develop adequate clinical skills to conduct both directive and non-directive sand tray sessions with clients of all ages in play therapy. 
  5. Identify the importance of symbolism and metaphor through the sand tray process.
  6. List the different categories of sand tray miniatures.
  7. Examine the therapeutic value of sand tray play therapy.
  8. Discover ways to incorporate sand tray therapy for traveling play therapists.
  9. Survey the guidelines for miniature selections.
  10. How to introduce sand tray and its miniatures to play therapy clients of all ages.
  11. Discuss the role of the play therapist when implementing sand tray in play therapy sessions.
  12. Evaluate how to incorporate sand tray play therapy in a variety of settings including families and groups. 
Please note: *Attendees are reminded that registration for a training must be cancelled within 48 hours of payment in order to receive a FULL refund* To request a change to a training, please email us at stlplaytherapy@gmail.com. Cancellations that are made seven days before the training date will given the option for either a refund less a $25 administration fee or a credit towards a future training. The refund amount will be for the amount paid for the training less a $25 administration fee.  All refunds will be mailed 60 days after request.  For persons requesting a credit, they will receive an individualized code for the amount to be used for a future training.

Trainings will be held at: 1123 Locust St, St. Louis, MO 63101. All full day trainings run from 9 AM to 4:00 PM, with a lunch break between 12-1pm.  Please note that while many trainings are on Thursdays and Fridays, in an effort to accommodate requests, some trainings fall on different days of the week.
