Culturally Competent Play Therapy:
Addressing Therapeutic Needs for Diverse Populations

Phase III: 6 CEs​ - CORE Curriculum Course
​* This training counts as 6 hours of APT Approved Training (2 hours of Seminal Theories, 2 hours of Skills/Methods, & 2 hours of Special Topics)

A core ethical component is for clinicians to utilize cultural competence when working with clients. But what exactly does that mean? This training will identify the important characteristics of minority populations and ways to engage them in play therapy. Interventions include play therapy games and activities for LGBTQ clients and ways to empower young girls within a play therapy framework.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss how different ethnic and racial cultural aspects apply to play therapy. 
  2. Adapt specific play therapy interventions that are applicable to various populations.
  3. Understand the importance of being a culturally competent play therapist.
  4. Assess the importance of different cultural traditions and holidays and their applications to play therapy. 
  5. Evaluate the importance of identity in minority populations. 
  6. Improve their skills in integrating more culturally-sound play therapy techniques into their practice. 
Please note: *Attendees are reminded that registration for a training must be cancelled within 48 hours of payment in order to receive a FULL refund* To request a change to a training, please email us at stlplaytherapy@gmail.com. Cancellations that are made seven days before the training date will given the option for either a refund less a $25 administration fee or a credit towards a future training. The refund amount will be for the amount paid for the training less a $25 administration fee.  All refunds will be mailed 60 days after request.  For persons requesting a credit, they will receive an individualized code for the amount to be used for a future training.

Trainings will be held at: 1123 Locust St, St. Louis, MO 63101. All full day trainings run from 9 AM to 4:00 PM, with a lunch break between 12-1pm.  Please note that while many trainings are on Thursdays and Fridays, in an effort to accommodate requests, some trainings fall on different days of the week.
