* This training counts as 2 hours of APT Approved Training (2 hours of Skills/Methods)
Trainer: Ella Duncan, PhD, BCD, MSW, LCSW, RPT-S
Cutting, self-harm, self-abuse, parasuicide, self-injury, and self-mutilation are terms that have been used to describe the behavior now included in the DSM-V as "Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Disorder” (NSSID). Participants in this 2-hour webinar will gain understanding to differentiate between suicidal and non-suicidal self-injury, explore causes in children and adolescents, and the exploration of themes to look for in the playroom that may alert the play therapist to a child engaging in self-harming behaviors. Time will also be spent learning play therapy interventions to help children and teens to suppress, manage, and redirect the urge to self-injure.
